Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know about FX Europe
Where do the exchange rates come from?
All exchange rates in FX Europe come from the European Central Bank (ECB). The ECB publishes reference rates for approximately 30 currencies against the Euro every working day at around 4:00 p.m. CET. These are the same reference rates used by businesses, banks, and institutions across Europe.
How often are rates updated?
Rates are updated once per day when the ECB publishes new data, typically around 4:00 p.m. CET on working days. The ECB does not publish rates on weekends or EU public holidays — on those days, the most recent rates remain in effect.
Can I use FX Europe offline?
Yes. The app caches the latest exchange rates on your device. When you're offline — no Wi-Fi, no mobile data, airplane mode — it uses the last successfully fetched rates. The app clearly shows when rates were last updated so you know how current they are.
Is FX Europe free?
Yes. The core app is free: you get full currency conversion, the calculator, and all 30+ currencies. The free version includes a small banner ad. You can optionally upgrade to Premium (a one-time purchase) to remove ads and unlock home screen widgets.
What does Premium include?
Premium is a one-time purchase (not a subscription) that removes all banner ads and unlocks home screen widgets on both iOS and Android. You can restore your purchase if you switch devices.
What currencies are supported?
FX Europe supports all currencies in the ECB daily reference dataset — over 30 currencies including EUR, USD, GBP, CHF, CZK, PLN, HUF, RON, BGN, SEK, DKK, NOK, JPY, CNY, CAD, AUD, and more. The full list matches whatever the ECB publishes.
How are non-EUR currency pairs calculated?
Since the ECB publishes all rates against the Euro, non-EUR pairs (like USD/GBP or PLN/CZK) are calculated as cross rates via EUR. This is standard practice and is noted in the app. For example, USD/CZK = (EUR/CZK) ÷ (EUR/USD).
What languages does the app support?
FX Europe is available in all 24 official EU languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, and Swedish.
Are the exchange rates the same as what my bank charges?
No. ECB reference rates are benchmark rates — they're not transaction rates. Your bank, credit card company, or currency exchange will apply their own spread (markup) on top of these rates. FX Europe gives you the neutral ECB benchmark so you can compare what others are charging.
Is my data collected?
FX Europe doesn't require an account or any personal information. The app uses Firebase Analytics for basic usage metrics and Google Mobile Ads for the free tier. Premium users get a completely ad-free experience. No personal data is sold or shared beyond standard ad/analytics SDKs.
When will the app be available?
FX Europe is currently in final testing. The Android version is built and the iOS version is awaiting Apple Developer enrollment approval. We'll update this page and our social channels when the app is live on Google Play and the App Store.
How is FX Europe different from Wise or Revolut?
FX Europe is a currency converter and reference tool — it shows you ECB exchange rates. Wise and Revolut are financial services that let you hold and transfer money. Think of FX Europe as a pocket reference for checking rates, comparing what your bank charges, and doing quick conversions. It doesn't move money.
Does FX Europe support widgets?
Yes. Both iOS (WidgetKit) and Android support home screen widgets that show your favorite currency pairs. Tapping a widget opens the calculator with that pair pre-loaded. Widgets are a Premium feature.
What devices are supported?
FX Europe runs on iOS 11+ (iPhone and iPad) and Android API 21+ (Android 5.0 Lollipop and newer). This covers the vast majority of devices currently in use.
